Alix Greenberg, artist and founder of Portraits for Good, started the online platform in 2015 to empower artists to make art while simultaneously donating proceeds from every purchase to a non-profit of the purchaser’s choice.

This ‘Alixer’ (see how we did that?) of Good says, “I’ve always thought of myself as an artist, more than an entrepreneur. But a few years ago I realized that, while artists have long stood for important causes, they’ve lacked a way to directly impact the causes that mattered to them most. That’s why I created Portraits for Good.”

Since launching the site, the organization has helped to support organizations like Doctors Without Borders, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the ASPCA.

Alix says that while there are no set amounts that go to each charity, the contribution is significant, “As the charity is based on what the customer chooses at checkout, there is not a set dollar amount annually contributed to any of the charities on the site. Donations are made on a sliding scale - factors such as the artist and price of artwork are variables in determining the monetary donation. I also have contributed in-kind donations. For instance, with Mike Natter - who has Type 1 Diabetes – when customers purchase Natter’s work (see a sketch above), charitable contributions are made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Funds from Natter’s sales enabled the execution of his projects from printing to framing to creating smiles.”
